Presentation of the book by Professor Michał Gawlikowski

A book launch of the monograph “Tadmor – Palmyra. A Caravan City between East and West”, written by Professor Michał Gawlikowski, and published by the IRSA Foundation, was held in the Columned Hall of the University of Warsaw. The laudation for Professor Gawlikowski was delivered by Professor Piotr Bieliński from the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology University of Warsaw.

The publication of the book “Tadmor – Palmyra. A Caravan City between East and West” has been supported by Polish Ministry of Education and Science from the funds of the “Excellent Science” programme (DNM/SN/513583/2021).

A lecture by Professor Józef Grabski delivered in the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences

Professor Józef Grabski delivered a lecture “Jacopo Tintoretto versus Scarpagnino. Środki artystyczne wiążące malarstwo z architekturą w ‘Sala d’Albergo’, Scuola di San Rocco w Wenecji” [Jacopo Tintoretto versus Scarpagnino. Artistic means connecting painting with architecture in the “Sala d’Albergo”, Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice] during a sitting of the Commission of Art History.

The Marian Sokołowski Prize

The Marian Sokołowski Prize for the best MA thesis in art history written at Cracow universities in the 2020/2021 academic year was handed out to the prizewinners in the Institute of Art History of the Jagiellonian University. Professor Józef Grabski, the Chair of the IRSA Foundation, is one of the members of the award jury.

This year’s prize was awarded to Violetta Korsakova, MA, for her thesis “Art-historical methodology in Władysław Podlacha’s handbook”, written under the supervision of Professor Wojciech Bałus.

Distinctions went to Adam Szczepaniec, MA, for the thesis “Reconstruction of the Castle in Legnica after a Fire in 1711. Contribution to the Research on the Architecture in Silesia at the Beginning of the 18th Century”, written under the supervision of Professor Piotr Krasny. Adam Szczepaniec received also the Special award of the IRSA Foundation. Both theses were written in the Institute of Art History of the Jagiellonian University.

A new book published by IRSA Foundation

IRSA Foundation published a book “Symbols and Forms in Jewish Art” by Rachel Wischnitzer, an English translation of a classic study on the iconography of Jewish art, originally published in German, in Berlin in 1935.

June 22th

Professor Józef Grabski participated in a conference in Jerusalem

Professor Józef Grabski presented a paper “The Group of Paintings by Tintoretto in the ‘Sala d’Albergo’ in the Scuola di San Rocco in Venice and their Relationship to the Architectural Structure by Antonio Abbondi’ during a conference in honour of Professor Luba Freedman. The conference took place in Jerusalem.

Book launch of a monograph on Palmyra

The book “Tadmor – Palmyra. A Caravan City between East and West” written by Professor Michał Gawlikowski was presented in the Archaeological Museum of Kraków. The laudation for Professor Gawlikowski was delivered by Professor Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka, Institute of Archaeology of the Jagiellonian University. Professor Gawlikowski delivered a lecture on the history of excavations in Palmyra.

Professor Józef Grabski delivered a papaer during a conference in Rome

During a conference “Il fascino di Roma, dell’antico e dell’arte Italiana nella vita scientifica e collezionistica degli ultimi conti Lanckoroński” organised in Rome by Prof. Jerzy Miziołek and the Faculty of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw, Professor Józef Grabski delivered a paper “Karolina Lanckorońska, l’Istituto Storico Polacco a Roma e la nascita di Artibus et Historiae”.
